Introducing Viral Shield (HSV) Black Soap: The Next Evolution of Your Favorite Skin Cleanser

For everyone who loved our original African Aloe Black Soap, we’ve got exciting news. We’ve taken everything you adored about that nourishing bar and made it even better. Formerly known as the African Aloe Black Soap, our new Viral Shield (HSV) Black Soap is the next-level version, now enhanced with the power of aloe-emodin.

Why the upgrade? While our original concentrated aloe vera formula was beloved for its soothing and moisturizing properties, we discovered that aloe-emodin offers an even more potent level of care. Aloe-emodin is a powerful plant compound that retains all the fantastic skin-loving benefits of aloe—hydration, calming inflammation, and supporting overall skin health—while also being recognized in research for its enhanced effectiveness.

In other words, we’re knocking out two birds with one stone. Those who cherished the African Aloe Black Soap will still enjoy the same trusted aloe-based benefits. But now, with aloe-emodin in the mix, it’s an even more advanced and effective bar that goes the extra mile—especially for those looking to support their skin in the face of viral concerns.

Welcome to a better, more powerful version of your favorite soap—same soothing roots, with a boosted layer of protection.

African Black Soap + Aloe-Emodin (Active) — Product Description

Meet the next-level African Black Soap bar: deep-cleansing, mineral-rich, and supercharged with aloe-emodin—a naturally occurring anthraquinone found in plants like Aloe species. This bar is built for people who want that classic Black Soap “reset,” plus a modern, research-backed active aimed at supporting clearer-looking skin, a healthier scalp, and a cleaner surface environment.

Why Aloe-Emodin?

Aloe-emodin is studied for antiviral activity against enveloped viruses in lab settings. In one classic paper, researchers found aloe-emodin could directly inactivate several enveloped viruses in vitro, and electron microscopy showed damage/disruption to the herpes simplex virus (HSV) envelope. PubMed+1

What that means topically (connecting the dots—responsibly):

  • HSV-1 and HSV-2 are enveloped viruses (they have a lipid “coat”). Research suggests some compounds can reduce infectivity by disrupting that envelope in vitro. PubMed+1

  • A wash-off cleanser is not the same as an internal antiviral, and your skin is a strong barrier.

  • But as a surface-level cleanser, a bar like this may help support a “clean-skin routine” around problem areas by reducing grime, excess oil, and microbial buildup, while your body’s own barrier and immune defenses do their job.

Important reality check: This is not a cure or replacement for HSV medication. Think: supportive hygiene + skin barrier care, not a promise to cure you but it will stop outbreaks from coming.

Benefits for Skin (Face + Body)

1) Deep-cleaning + pore support

  • Traditional African Black Soap is known for lifting dirt and excess oil; pairing it with aloe-emodin adds a science-driven active with broad antimicrobial research interest. PubMed+1

2) Calms the look of irritation

  • Aloe-related extracts are widely studied for anti-inflammatory skin effects, which can help skin look less angry and more even. PMC+2PMC+2

3) Antioxidant-style support (environmental stress)

  • Aloe constituents are frequently discussed in the context of oxidative stress and skin support. PMC+1

4) Tone + clarity support

  • Aloe-emodin has been studied for tyrosinase inhibition (tyrosinase is a key enzyme involved in melanin formation), which is why aloe compounds show up in pigmentation research conversations. PubMed+1

Benefits for Scalp + Hair

This bar can be used as an occasional scalp cleanser (especially if you deal with buildup).

  • Removes product buildup at the scalp so hair can feel lighter and cleaner.

  • Helps reduce the look of flakes caused by buildup and surface imbalance (not a medical dandruff claim).

  • Aloe-emodin has been researched in antimicrobial contexts, including activity against certain microbes and biofilms in lab studies—relevant when your goal is a cleaner scalp environment. PubMed+2PubMed+2

Pro tip: Follow with a conditioner or a light oil on the ends—African Black Soap can feel “squeaky clean.”

Viral Inactivation / HSV-1 & HSV-2 — What We Can Say Honestly

The science spotlight:

  • Aloe-emodin showed direct virucidal (virus-inactivating) activity against multiple enveloped viruses in vitro, and HSV envelope disruption was observed under electron microscopy. PubMed+1

  • Reviews discussing aloe compounds continue to cite aloe-emodin’s antiviral research history, including HSV-1 and HSV-2 in lab settings. PMC+1

How that may translate to your routine (realistic expectation):

  • During times you’re more prone to irritation or breakouts around a specific area, using a gentle cleanser that supports a clean surface and calmer-looking skin may be helpful.

  • Do not use on open sores/blisters or mucous membranes. If you suspect HSV activity, follow clinician guidance.

How to Use

  • Face/Body: Lather in hands or on a cloth, apply to wet skin, massage 20–30 seconds, rinse well.

  • Scalp: Use sparingly (1–2x/week). Lather at roots only, rinse thoroughly, condition ends.

Cautions (Because Aloe-Emodin is Potent)

  • Patch test first (inside forearm, 24 hours).

  • Avoid eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.

  • Don’t apply to broken skin or active lesions.

  • If you’re managing HSV outbreaks, talk to a clinician—standard antivirals are proven and important.

2 reviews for Aloe Shield (HSV) Soap

I simply love this soap, I often have a rash of bumps on my neck, and it can last up to 2 months, but when I used this soap, it stopped the process of the rash outbreak. I can feel the areas on my neck that are irritated right before the rash outbreak and I lather my soap, applying the soap directly on irritated skin for like 2-5 minutes straight and it stops the rash from coming out. I also use a King butter from another source but any natural butter will soothe the area because the soap will dry the area out but shea butter is also good, for using after the HSV Soap, I give this product 100% approval.

YESSSSSSSS! I ordered 2 more bars because I was getting low!
